Nepal, a country of 27 million people with 10 million people with internet access on their mobile phone has above 3.5 million active Facebook users till the last of 2013 and is increasing at good rate.Nepalese people use social networks a lot in compare to other nations. Google had reported that Nepal was on the seventh position according to number of G+ users in the first month of it’s launch.
Nepal suffers a lot from no light “load sheeding” upto 16 hours a day in the winter so people depend upon the battery powered devices like Mobile and laptop replacing televisions for the entertainment purpose and are used to log in Facebook first as soon as they open such devices.Targeting an specific category of audience is possible only with the Facebook because there are no any other national level magazines, television, FM radio etc that are for specific category of people. Nepalese youths are living in abroad countries for their work maximum in Middle East countries so there’s no any other media other than Facebook that might reach them efficiently except facebook.
Facebook advertisements are the most cheapest medium of advertisement in Nepal recently because the trend is new and not everyone had jumped in to it and Facebook decides the pricing depending upon the competition of advertisers to advertise on Facebook. So, till we have more advertisers on Facebook, it would remain as the cheapest means of advertisement.
According to Roshan Rai, Facebook Advertisement Marketing Manager at CoACT Solution Facebook marketing is very effective and has given a bigger return on investment to the business comparative to television, magazine and hoording boards. He added although Facebook advertisements is increasing in Nepal there is no official payment gateway to pay to Facebook for advertisement which is the main hurdles that we have to face. He expects goverment of Nepal to some actions regarding it and create some official payment mediums which will also be benificial for them to collect tax.
